Fall Card

Although the weather in Wisconsin isn't cooperating, it is time to start posting fall projects. Fall is probably my favorite time of year - the changing colors of the trees and the crunch of leaves underfoot.

Branch Out is one of our dormant stamp sets. I love the tree all by itself. Here is one of the cards I recently made with this set.

The tree is embossed with Gold Glory EP. I have had the clear buttons for years, but I just don't seem to grab them when finishing a project. I need to use them more often!

Butterfly Punch Cottage Wall Cards

Pretty soon my blog will be filled with Fall and Halloween samples and ideas...but I can't let go of summer quite yet!

One of the Stampin' Up! colors I find difficult to use in my stamping is Orchid Opulence. It just isn't one of my favorites. However, a customer of mine needed help using the color right before the new catalog came out...thank goodness for Stampin' Up! coming to my rescue! The new Cottage Wall DSP uses Orchid Opulence with Old Olive and Rich Razzleberry (secondary colors might include Pale Plum and Mellow Moss).

When I was prepping for my New Catalog Stamp Camp, I also wanted to find a way to use the adorable new Butterfly Punch. This example also uses the Hi Embosslit (used with the Big Shot).

Here is another version using the new Modern Label Punch:

I punched out different pieces of the Cottage Wall DSP and colored pieces of card stock. The punched butterfly pieces are just attached the the lower punched piece with the small silver brads. You can fold the dsp punch piece to give the butterfly more dimension.

September 2009 Card Kit

This is my September Card Kit Card! If you would like to purchase the September Card Kit, you need to contact me by September 15th. The cost of the card kit is $15.00. The card kit will be available for pickup/mailing on October 1st. Payment can be made through Paypal or by checks/cash for my local customers.

Each kit will provide all the supplies to create 12 cards including the pre-cut card stock, embellishments, envelopes, and instructions. The phase used on this card is from Teeny Tiny Wishes, one of the new stamp sets from the 2009-2010 Stampin’ Up!® Idea Book & Catalog. However, you can substitute another phrase if you wish. This is a great fall-themed card – it can work for a general occasion, Halloween, or Thanksgiving card!

My September Card Kit also features Stampin’ Up!®’s wonderful punches. The five punches you should have for this kit are the large oval punch, the 1" circle punch, the 3/4" circle punch, the Modern Label punch, and the Word Window punch. If you don’t have the Modern Label or Word Window punches, you could easily adapt the card with different phrase/punch pieces. You will also need a Pumpkin Pie ink pad, hole piercing tool, sponge, and Stampin’ Dimensionals or excess rubber pieces.

Why do I create card kits? I LOVE having my customers come to my home for stamp camps and events, but I know there are several stampers out there who just can’t make it to my events. This is an easy way for them to keep their creative juices flowing and their card stash filled. These card kits are also great for my stampers who love to create cards, but don’t always enjoy planning out and cutting out their cards.

Wild Wednesday Deal #3

The grommets are so fun and very easy to use. Here is an example of the Jumbo Grommet:

My stampers made this card - which is a scratch and sniff card - at last night's Technique Tuesday class. With a foam pad behind the card stock, they just pushed the grommet through by hand and then used a small hammer or bone folder to push back the grommet prongs.

Making a scratch and sniff card is easy when you know the ratio of clear embossing powder to smell powder (in this case Lemonade Kool-Aid). The ratio is 1 and 1/2 to 1.

Here are the basic instructions for a scratch and sniff technique:

With the powder mixed and the card stock brushed with an embossing buddy, stamp the image in a VersaMark pad first, then reink the same stamp into a dye inkpad (in this case Crushed Curry), and then stamp the image onto card stock. Cover the image with the mixed powder, tap off excess, and heat emboss. Be careful as the embossing effect will not be as smooth as usual - the embossed image will look a bit bumpy due to the nonmelting powder added to the mixture. Kool-Aid (in the little packets), coffee granules, and spices work great for the scratch and sniff technique! Jell-O does not as it has too much sugar to give a strong smell.

Fun Kid Project-Bingo Game

I stamped with some great kids last week. We made a bingo card game. The kids were told to use several stamps in different colors. The only rule was not to stamp the same stamp more than once in the same column. Here is the blank card the kids stamped on:

Here is the unstamped leader card:Here is one of the stamped leader cards (you need at least 2 stamped leader cards):

I used the 1-3/8" circle punch to punch out the stamped images for the leader. You will need to cut off sections to get to each column.
Then I punched circles with the 1" Circle Punch in Real Red (enough for 20 circles for each child). I put the leader board circles in bag and shook them up! After the children finished their bingo cards, we played a few games. It was great fun!

This is another example from my Christmas in July Stamp Camp this week. Stampin' Up! introduced stencils in their Decor Elements line last year. This is a new addition! These stencils are perfect for home decor, but they can also be used in cards and scrapbook pages! This card also used the Big Shot texture plate - Perfect Details.

Last night I held my Christmas in July stamp camp. It was a full house filled with fabulous stampers! Here is one of the projects they did:

This card used a lot of punches! Here is a list of what I used:

1-3/4" Circle Punch (1-Blush Blossom and 1-Real Red)

Scallop Square Punch (1-Whisper White)*

Small Oval Punch (1-Whisper White)*

Large Oval Punch (1-Real Red)

Wide Oval Punch (1-Real Red)

Word Window Punch (3-Basic Black** and 4-Real Red)

3/4" Circle Punch (Whisper White)

1/4" Circle Punch (Basic Black and Real Red)

Warm Words Stamp Set and Real Red and Chocolate Chip Ink (sponged edges of Santa piece)

*Punch out a Whisper White small oval punch-then punch out Scallop Square Punch for beard
**Cut off ends of two black Word Window Punches for mittens and boots

I also made a dessert everyone loved. Here is my Double Berry Trifle recipe:

2 Angel Food Cakes (Store Bought)

2 pkgs small vanilla pudding

3 cups milk

2 cartons of Cool Whip

Frozen Blueberries and Frozen Strawberries

Make pudding with 3 cups of milk. Let set until not quite firm. Fold in 1 and 1/4 of the cartons of Cool Whip to the pudding.

Tear Angel Food cake into pieces and line a layer in the trifle bowl (mine is a Pampered Chef Trifle Bowl).

Add a layer of pudding mixture. Layer one of the fruits on top. Then add another layer of Angel Food cake and pudding mixure. Layer the second fruit. Add one more layer of Angel Food cake and pudding mixture. Then top with the remaining Cool Whip.

Add a few fresh berries on top if desired.

I was stamping with some West Bend kids last week. The theme was July 4th - so I designed a Parade Goody Bag! I love making these bags using a paper bag and cardstock. We used several different star stamps (my example used a retired set called All Through The Year).

I told the kids that with this bag they could really "clean up" when the candy is thrown out at the parade!

New Catalog Anticipation!

You can just feel it in the air - today will be an exciting day! The new 2009-2010 Stampin' Up! catalog will be going "LIVE" in just a few hours!

For Stampin' Up! demonstrators, the first day of a new catalog is like waiting for Christmas. Our CEO, Shelli Gardner, is OUR SANTA CLAUS. This year was extra sweet as demonstrators had the opportunity to receive our catalogs earlier than ever before. We were good boys and girls this year I guess. We've made our lists, checked them twice (probably a LOT more), and now we just need to place our orders.

I will be placing an order for myself today. On my first order this afternoon, I plan on purchasing some new Christmas stamp sets and accessories to prepare for my Christmas in July stamp camp later this month. My husband used to be in charge of sealing my wood blocks, but now my son Michael has the job (he has a true knack for spray painting). He's "only" 12, but has been at my husband's side in the garage since he could walk.

After the blocks are sealed and stamps are assembled - it will be time to make samples! The new 2009-2010 In Colors will add some excitement to the mix for sure!

So why oh why is my computer clock moving sooo slow???

Fun Summer Project for Kids

One of my customers asked me to do some fun kid projects for the West Bend summer daycare program. Here is the first one we did last week. This is a summer photo album - perfect to keep pictures and memories of the summer.

The background design is so easy - just put your hand in a fliptop sandwich bag dab with an inkpad! A perfect technique for little ones (kept their hands clean too)! They stamped the fish and the woody wagon on top (and put a fish and their name on the back cover).

They had fun and so did I!!!!

Hello stampers~

Well, I expedited a demonstrator order so I could get my hands on the upcoming 2009-2010 Stampin' Up! catalog and some of the In Color preorder items.

There are some very strict rules in place for demonstrators about what we can and cannot post on our websites and blogs. I will be posting what I can when I can...

All I can say right now is WOWZERS. The new In Colors up close are gorgeous. My favorite combo will probably be Soft Suede and Rich Razzleberry. I love the new In Color ribbons too (and we have MARKERS to match!!!!)

I love the new stamp sets...without giving too much detail...the holiday sets and coordinating items ARE THE BOMB!!! They also have pleased me with the amount of new stuff relating to my boys' interests.

New Big Shot items will make gift giving effortless this year!

Some of my favorites from the mini catalogs made it in this year's catalog too.

Have to go back and look over the new items. One time through is definitely not enough!

Under the Stars One Sheet Wonder

A while back, I showed my stampers one of my favorite techniques for quick stamping results - the One Sheet Wonder. Basically, you stamp a collage on a full sheet of card stock. Then you cut it in smaller pieces to serve as a focal point or a background for cards or other projects.

Easter Criss-Cross Basket

Hello everyone~

At my Stamper's 8 meeting this month, I taught my customers how to make this adorable little basket! I love the chickie from A Good Egg stamp set! I also used the wheel Egg Hunt from the 2009 Spring Occasions Mini Catalog. It is the perfect size to give one Peep! I'll post the instructions after the pictures.

Materials Needed
6” x 6” piece of Certainly Celery Cardstock
¾” x 8” piece of Certainly Celery Cardstock (handle)
Scoring Blade/Scissors
Whisper White/Bashful Blue/Certainly Celery/So Saffron Cardstock
Delicate Dots DSP (SALE-A-BRATION)
A Good Egg Stamp Set
Egg Hunt Wheel (NEW/AVAILABLE – IN MINI!!)
VersaMark Inkpad/Gold Glory EP/Heat Gun/Embossing Buddy
Certainly Celery Ink Cartridge/Wheel Handle
Various Markers – I used So Saffron and Apricot Appeal
Big Shot and Pennant Die and Extended Cutting Piece
1 ¾” Circle/1/16” Hole (NLA)/Boho Blossoms Punches
Soft Subtles Brad
Sticky Strip/Stampin’ Dimensionals/SNAIL Monoadhesive
Basket Fillers – Grass, Peeps, Jelly Beans, Trinkets

Instructions
Wheel 6” x 6” piece of CC Cardstock; wheel handle piece if desired.
Score 6” x 6” piece at 2” and 4”; turn cardstock and repeat.
Using a paper cutter, cut off top triangle of each corner.
Cut into the score lines on the square on one side of the basket.
Cut into the score lines on the opposite side of the basket.
Fold triangle pieces back on one side, trim off square to ¾”.
Fold triangle pieces back on the other side, trim off square to ¾”.
Adhere Sticky Strip to wheeled rectangle sides – leave some room at top. Do not take redline tape off yet.
Flip over to unstamped side and adhere one piece of Sticky Strip to either both right-side triangle flaps or both left-side triangle flaps. Do not take Redline tape off yet.
Adhere Sticky Strip to the ends of the handle on the same side.
Take off Sticky Strip and put together basket. Set aside.
Emboss (2) chick images with Gold Glory on Whisper White.
Punch out with 1 ¾” Circle Punch.
Color in chicks with markers.
Using premade embossed chicks in the Delicate Dots DSP, cut out 2 bottom sections and adhere to Whisper White Pieces.
Use Big Shot and Pennant Die (ask for help if you need it) for 2 scallop pieces.
Adhere pieces with Snail Monoadhesive.
Punch out flower with So Saffron and Certainly Celery Scraps.
Insert brad with 1/16” punch. Pop up with Stampin’ Dimensional.

Fill basket!

Sock Monkey Birthday Blowout Card

I held my Birthday Blowout Stamp-A-Stack last week, and one of the cards I showcased was this Sock Monkey card. Perfect for a kid card, my stampers had fun creating this one especially. One of the reasons is that they didn't have to color in the whole monkey! I offered several coloring methods, and most of my stampers preferred the markering method. This card also used some Sale-A-Bration items - the ribbon and the Designer Series Paper.

Sock Monkey Birthday Card

Hi everyone~

I went to a birthday party this weekend for my niece. I created this card for her using Sock Monkey and some Sale-A-Bration items (the So Saffron grosgrain ribbon and the Delicate Dots DSP). I also used my Big Shot and the dotted Texturz plate. Did you notice the new scallop oval punch? LOVE IT!!!

The technique I used in this card was paper piecing - perfect to fill large spaces (like Sock Monkey's body) when you don't want to color in!

Branch Out Stairstep Card

Branch Out is one of the new stamp sets from the 2009 Spring/Summer Catalog - and I am having so much fun creating samples with this set! I'm using some different colors too!

I found these adorable chocolates at a local variety store. I created the basket base from 4 of the Big Shot scallop envelope dies. Truly a very simple basket to put together - crease and use Sticky Strip and add some DSP and doo-dads. I used the new large brads to attach the handle. On the large hearts, Big Winner is stamped.

When this new stamp set and Designer Series Paper were released, I was thrilled. Ever since I was a little girl and my Grandma Rice taught me to play Kings on the Corners, I have truly enjoyed playing cards. I used to wake up early and play solitaire on my desk in my bedroom (which truly annoyed my little sister Mary Jo especially when I shuffled the cards) In Wisconsin, one of the traditional games is Sheepshead. I learned this game in the high school lunchroom (Catholic School education - what can I say?), and I wish I could get together with my friends to play this game more often. My mother-in-law taught me to play Spite and Malice - and she is a true card shark! So card games are very dear to my heart. Here is a tin for the card lover in your life - you could add dice, quarters, a "doubler" chip, game rules, bridge notepad and pencils...you get the idea!

You can find these large Alphabet wall art items at various hobby and craft stores. I always think of the Mary Tyler Moore show when I alter these! I used the Bella Rose DSP, the Full Heart and the Heart to Heart Punches, Riding Hood Red Striped Grosgrain Ribbon, and the half mini pearls from the Pretties Kit. I use the Craft Bond spray glue to adhere the paper to the wood.

14 Days of Love #5 Vellum Envelope Treat Holder

This project uses the new SALE-A-BRATION stamp set Yummy. Three small Hershey Bars fit in a vellum envelope. I embossed the Yummy phrase on the envelope, placed the Hershey Bars inside and then sealed it with Sticky Strip. I punched the top with the Key Tag punch and then I tied a ribbon. I love to use envelopes for little projects - no cutting! Hope you like this one!

14 Days of Love Projects - #3 Ghirardelli Chocolate Box

Ohh, I think you're going to like this one! I held my All About Men Stamp Camp this week, and this was one of the projects we did.

This adorable little box held a Ghirardelli chocolate! Very small in size, but big on the cute factor! Don't you love those new corduroy buttons! I used Riding Hood Red and Chocolate Chip cardstock and DSP as well as our new SALE-A-BRATION stamp set - Yummy. The new Full Heart and Heart to Heart punches are the bomb!

Here are the dimensions:

CS – 4.25” X 7.5”
SCORE AT 1”, 3.25”, 4.25” 6.5” on long side
SCORE AT 1” from each end on short side

Fold all score lines, cut 8 scores (4 per side) The next photo will help you when you cut and attach the sticky strip.

I have 14 Days of Love projects and cards that I will be uploading from now until Valentine's Day. Today's project is one that is floating around websites and blogs everywhere...the adorable mini mailboxes from Target's Dollar Spot.

STAMPER’S 8 PROJECT – VALENTINE MAILBOX

Supplies
White Mailbox – Target Dollar Spot
Love You Much Stamp Set - NEW
Heart Trio Punch – NEW
Scallop Circle/1-3/8” Circle/1-1/4” Circle Punches
Riding Hood Red Inkpad
Riding Hood Red DSP
½” Circle Punch/Scissors
Riding Hood Red/Choc Chip/Whisper White CS
Riding Hood Red or Chocolate Chip Textured CS
Riding Hood Red Striped Ribbon
White and Chocolate Chip Grosgrain Ribbon
2-Way Glue Pen/Stampin’ Dimensionals/Sticky Strip
Dazzling Diamonds Glitter/Gold Brad/1/16” Punch

DIRECTIONS

Take piece of RHR DSPaper. This fits all the way around the mailbox. DO NOT ADHERE YET!!!! Eyeball and center DSP around mailbox with about 2” on either side of DSP to be on the bottom of the mailbox.
USING FINGERS, with DSP is proper space, rub gently around mailbox grommet – this will help you know where to punch in step #3.
Punch hole over the grommet impression with the ½” circle punch. Cut a center slit to the hole.
Attach a long piece of STICKY STRIP to each end of the DSP. Line up DSP (with circle punch/flag lined up) on mailbox and remove the redline tape one at a time.
Do the same with the TEXTURED CARDSTOCK PIECE and the RHR RIBBON PIECE.
Cut 6” strips of White and Chocolate Chip Grosgrain ribbon. (3 Chocolate, 2 White). Tie in knots on flag arm. Trim as desired.
Stamp Love You Much, Hugs&Kisses, and Heart images on Whisper White with RHR ink.
Punch 4 sets of heart trios.
Add Dazzling Diamonds Glitter with 2-Way Glue Pen – let dry.
Punch (2) 1-3/8” Circles in RHR; Punch (2) Scallop Circles in Chocolate Chip
Attach pieces to squares and scallops. Add brad to flower on one piece.

GLUING TIPS FOR FINAL ASSEMBLY
When adhering to the actual tin, use the Sticky Strip.
When adhering large hearts to DSP on mailbox, use Stampin’ Dimensionals.
When adhering smaller hearts to images, use 2-Way Glue Pen.
When adhering the scallops to the mail flag, use Stampin' Dimensionals.

This card has a faux denim background and features many SU punches. This could easily be transformed into a birthday card by changing the "noel" phrase!

I have been using the new set Snow Swirled all season. I just love this set!

Here's a card showing an example of a poinsettia made with punches (the 5 flower punch and the 1/4" circle punch). I also used the long scallop punch for the bottom of the tree piece. There's a brad on top inside the "star".

Today's card is a gift certificate holder. I won't tell who it is for so I don't wreck the surprise! I used the new holly wheel! I embossed the saying in white ep on the coordinating tag. Mellow Moss, Riding Hood Red, and Always Artichoke are a great color combo!

Today's card is an example of Reverse Poppin' Pastels. This card uses Snow Swirled and To You and Yours.
Reverse Poppin' Pastels is such an easy technique. All you need is dark colored cardstock and lighter pastels. I use a QTip or a cotton ball and spread the pastel (in this case I used white) all over the piece of cardstock. Then ink your image with Versamark and stamp onto the pastel piece. The Versamark takes off the pastel to leave the image.

The kids had off today - we had a total of about 12 inches of snow since 1:00 am last night. This was the third snow day in a month! I usually adore snow days, but today I had really wanted to get some Christmas wrapping done. Very hard to be sneaky when kids are coming in and out with wet gloves etc.

For today's card, I used Big on Christmas. A very simple card, but it shows a faux button - made with the 2-hole circle punch and then punched out with the 3/4" circle punch. Tie a knot with a piece of hemp or ribbon and pop it up with mini glue dots.

For December 16th and December 17th, I will be showcasing a card format called the stair step card. I learned this technique online from a fellow blogger (thanks, Gretchen!). This card was tweaked from her example. The Holy Triptych stamp set is perfect for this format!

I taught my stampers this technique/format at my latest Technique Tuesday class. Here were the instructions I gave them:

Confetti White/Night of Navy CS

Cardbase

Today's post includes one of my favorite stamp sets and one of my favorite techniques.

Lovely as a Tree is just one of those sets I hope never retires. I use it for almost every occasion (and see I don't even have a greeting on this card - just in case I need it!). The technique I used is called polished stone - I used Mellow Moss, Always Artichoke, and Silver Encore refills for the background.

I used the Big Shot Top Note die and the Button die. I have used the direct-to-paper technique for the background and embossed the snowman on the Top Note. I just love these snowmen!

Today's card is really a gift card holder. This time of year there are plenty of gift cards floating around - why not dress it up a bit with a stamped gift card holder? This gift card holder is actually an envelope. We made this at my Christmas Gifts Stamp Camp last month.

Here are the instructions.

Happy Holidays Gift Card Instructions

1. Fold envelope in half
2. At midsection, cut to top of envelope
3. Punch holes for ribbon and insert ribbon through holes
4. Seal left side of envelope
5. Using marker, ink up phrase from Loads of Love and stamp on scrap piece of Whisper White. Punch out with oval punch
6. Punch out Always Artichoke Wide Oval tag. Adhere to envelope with only one Stampin’ Dimensional on left side
7. Stamp Happy Holidays image in Stazon on Whisper White cardstock. Color words, tree, and star with markers
8. Add glitter to star using 2-Way Glue and Dazzling Diamonds
9. Adhere all pieces and tie ribbon in bow

I hope this inspires all of you to go buy gift cards!!!!

Today's card is a bit "out of the box" as you may not think of this stamp set when making Christmas cards. I used the Wow Flowers stamp set along with Heard from the Heart.

The flowers look quite like snowflakes when embossed in white. Here it is!

The card I am featuring today uses Holy Triptych, Sincere Salutations, and Baroque Motifs. I love the large stamp from Baroque Motifs as a background. The color combination uses Pale Plum, Perfect Plum, and Naturals White with silver accents (Silver EP and Silver Mini Library Clip).

I love the softness yet richness these colors invoke. Enjoy!

The kids were home from school as we had 9 inches of snow at least since last night. I am just as happy (I think even happier) when the kids have off of school.

Today's card is a very simple card - with limited coloring on purpose. I was trying to go for the look that you oftentimes see in artwork -you know - the bright red cardinal in a snowy birch forest. The stamp set is Home for Christmas from the Holiday Mini Catalog.

I like the simple look of this card - hope you do too!

For today's card, I chose one that uses a technique that I have always been scared of. I know this sounds silly, but although I have been stamping since I was 15 years old (I'm closing in on my mid-40s right now), there are just a few techniques that intimidate me.

The reflection technique used to incorporate using the Stamp-a-ma-jig. I have owned one ever since I became a demo...but honestly, I've never used it. Shame on me.

I learned a different way to do the reflection technique using an acetate sheet (much like the SAMJ, I know). However, all you had to do is stamp the image with Stazon on the top of the base piece and then once on the acetate and then flip the acetate and smoosh it down at the bottom of the base piece. Voila! OMG! I was giddy with excitement when I tried it the first time and it worked!!!!!! My Technique Tuesday class loved learning this easy method!

To be honest, I didn't have too many stamps that I immediately thought of when I wanted to try out the technique EXCEPT Lovely As A Tree. That stamp set is the PERFECT choice for this technique...and I am crossing my fingers and toes that it is not one of those on the chopping block tomorrow morning when the 2008 Fall Winter Stamp Set retirement list comes out.

For today's card I used Punch Pals. This set was perfect for a mug template card - which you can insert a package of hot cocoa! That little penguin is just soo cute. I added the tag with the three snowballs on the bottom. The sparkly glitter adds a nice touch too! I should use this set more often - I am glad it is on my stamping table as tomorrow I have some time to stamp!

Well, we are at Day 5 - here is my card using the To You and Yours stamp set. Sadly, you cannot see the lovely swirl dry embossing on the bottom. I used the swirl from the Priceless Brass Template. This was one of my Technique Tuesday cards last month. Dry embossing isn't something I do often, but when I do I just love the look. Dry embossing always steps up a card!

The Ski Slope Designer Series Paper and Felt Flurries were also highlighted on this card. Enjoy!

Today's card features the Big on Christmas stamp set. Paint chips are great to use as a canvas for your stamping! The only trick to using them is they can be a bit slippery so I don't usually use my Classic inkpads. I use my Stazon pad or emboss on them to have the best effect.

The jeweled brad adds a nice touch too!

In my neck of the woods, we have had about 10 inches of snow this week...my boys love it (they even had off of school on Monday). My yard looks like a race track with all the snowmobile tracks! They are so happy when they get to ride!

Don't you love the different color combinations of the holidays? I would have to admit I am not a Glorious Green and Real Red gal for the holidays...my color palette centers around deeper, richer colors like Always Artichoke, Elegant Eggplant, and Bravo Burgundy. My other favorite color combination celebrates the blue theme. This is my card for December 3rd using Night of Navy, Brocade Blue, and Brushed Silver:

I demonstrated this flip card at my Snow Swirled Stamp Camp. I love the look of Brushed Silver Paper when it is embossed with Silver!

25 Cards of Christmas - December 2nd

Tonight I held my December Technique Tuesday class. I adore these ladies - they are the core of my business and are fabulous and fun to be around.

One of the techniques I taught tonight was Faux Quilting. This is a great technique to use with bits and pieces of your Designer Series Paper. Many samples I found online used the larger square punches. For the card below, I actually used the 3/4" square punch. It made a smaller quilt, but it was easier to plan a card around this size. Here it is:

To make the quilt - punch out 6 squares. Take one square and cut in half diagonally and then cut each of those again diagonally. The Old Olive piece is 2.5" x 2.5" for the 3/4" punch quilt. Start and ahdere one full square, and then use one of the squares as your spacer. Get the four corners done this way (using the spacer square really helps line it up). Then use those four cut pieces in between the full squares. Finally adhere the spacer square in the middle. It is hard to see, but there is some paper piercing on the upper right and lower left of the More Mustard piece.

Hello everyone!

Today I am starting a new event on my blog - 25 Cards of Christmas. I will be posting a new Christmas card every day for 25 days!

Here is my first one - using the To You and Yours stamp set.

The colors on this card are Pacific Point and Baja Breeze. Love these new in colors! For the dove piece, I used the bleach brushing technique to whiten (or in this case "vanillan") the Baja Breeze cardstock. I love using bleach with stamping! The little variances of cardstock can really change what results when you use bleach. My scanner didn't pick up the ribbon color too well or the base card (both are Vanilla).

Holiday Gifts Stamp Camp Cardinal Pin

Last night I held my annual Holiday Gifts Stamp Camp. We had lots of fun and made 5 projects. One of the projects we made was this one:

This project came together late one night...thanks to my husband who painted various wood pieces in the garage in his pajamas before heading to bed!

My customers could make them into magnets or into pins. Some of the wood pieces were thin enough to even use the CropADile and loop a ribbon through to make an ornament! This cardinal from A Cardinal Christmas in the Holiday Mini Catalog is so pretty and detailed. All we had to do is stamp using black StazOn, let dry, and attach the magnet or the pinback with Crystal effects used as glue - and my customers joked about renting out my husband for their painting projects (in his pajamas no less).

Thanks to my husband for coming to my rescue!

Spooky Spider Treat Jar

I created this treat jar using Stampin' Up!'s new Decor Elements. The jar is from Target. I put those darling little mint spiders inside! The inside was lined with DSP - I think it helped the spooky spider stand out. I was thrilled with how easy it was to put this together (well, the filled jar of spiders took a while).

I can't wait to use more of the Decor Elements! Happy Halloween!

brown or white bag (size is up to you) I used a 4" wide bag (smaller than a lunchbag)

Stamp skull on 4" x 4" piece of glossy cardstock with VersaMark. Set aside to dry.

Stamp tag on Whisper White and punch out with small tag punch. Punch out Old Olive large tag. Mount pieces, punch hole, and run hemp through hole. Set aside.

Ink brayer with Going Gray. Brayer over skull. Once it is colored to your liking, take paper towel and rub off excess ink from skull. This step really helps make the image POP!

Using Spritzer tool and Basic Black marker, spritz over skull piece to the desired look. Set aside to dry - the marker stays wet on the glossy cardstock for a bit!

To make the bag - my bags were 4" wide
Cut 2 pieces of 5.5" x 4.5" Basic Black cardstock
4" wide white bag - cut top off for a 4.5" tall bag
Put sticky strip on bag front and back
Peel off redline tape and mount to back cardstock and then attach front piece to bag.
Punch Word Window punch on top for handle
Attach skull piece to front of bag

Insert spider goody!

Tie with ribbon and attach a spider if you have one with Crystal Effects and the tag

Stamper's 8 Group

This month's Stamper's 8 Group met this week. Here is the hostess goody bag I created...it mimicked the project we did. My hostess, Lisa, had several requests and wanted me to show a resist technique, use Crystal Effects, and use the spritzer tool. For the project, we used smaller bags and also created the little York mint spider that is sweeping the web! (No pun intended but hopefully appreciated!) For the project, I also had mini plastic spiders my customers glued on the ribbon with Crystal Effects! We also used the spritzer all over the skull from Just Jawing. I love this spider tag too!

September 2008 Card Kit - Upsy Daisy

Many of my wonderful customers are not able to attend my stamp camps and classes I hold in my home. I wanted to find a way to keep their stamped card stash filled, so I created my first Card Kit last month. I've already decorated the inside of my home for the autumn season. So I am ready to start sharing some of my stamped seasonal creations!

I love the new Just Jawing stamp set. My boys think it is a pretty cool set too. I've been busy creating samples for this set, and one of my new favorite card templates is the tent card. Here is one I made with the Just Jawing set:

I embossed the skull (and cut it out without the crossbones). I used the new Ghostly Greetings DSP and the Chills & Thrills rub ons. Happy Spook Night!

All-American Cherry Card

Cherry pie is one of my all-time favorites - and my Grandma Rice made the best! Mmmm-I loved her handmade piecrust, and she'd always put on a dollop of ice cream! Makes me want to take a quick trip to Door County (a favorite family vacation area) and the Seaquist Orchards! When I was playing around with my new Just Jawing stamp set, I had to make a card with just the cherries. Here it is:

The cherries on the side are embossed. The main image is colored with markers. I love the double ribbon (5/8" old olive grosgrain and 1/4" red grosgrain. Anyone want some pie?

Just Punchy Card

I love Stampin' Up!'s punches. They are so fun to use when making cards, scrapbook pages, and gift projects. I have hosted two Just Punchy stamp camps - where I always feature some "out of the box" ideas for our punches. My customers love these! When I plan a card or item for my Just Punchy stamp camps, they have to meet the 4-punch criteria or they are not used.

I uploaded my Just Punchy stamp camp on my card gallery website last weekend. One of the cards that I showed my guests for inspiration was this card:

This one certainly uses more than 4 punches! I loved the Just Celebrate stamp set from the Spring Mini Catalog - The "whoo! hoo!" actually was on the owl image, but it reminded me of when my boys played trains when they were younger.

2008-2009 New Catalog Ponderings

Yesterday was the first day to order from our brand-new catalog! I was at the ready at my computer at exactly 1:00 pm CST to place a few orders! I cannot wait to get my goodies! What am I most excited about this year? In past years, it has been about the accessories for me, and this year that is still somewhat true. However, I am so excited about the new stamp sets-plus Stampin' Up! had a special with several of my must-have new catalog sets! Here are some of my purchases:

Trust me, the new accessories (especially the new styled brads and ribbons) have me nearly swooning! I love using both of these in my projects. The new designer papers and simply scrappin' kits are knock-out gorgeous! I think the more "manly" versions of the DSP will go over very well too - as it can be difficult to "dress up" masculine cards.

I've already put together my Wow Flowers Card Elements Kit (this was a demo preorder item). I think this is a perfect kit for those card-makers who don't have a lot of time, but still want to send something with a personal touch.

The new rub-on collection has such a variety! I think these will become a staple in every stamper's craft room!

Although demos have seen sneak peeks of the new punches, they are still fabulous to see in the catalog! My stamping table always seems to have two or three punches on it!

I have been busy creating samples with my demo preorder stamp sets. These will soon be scanned in my card gallery website. I spent much of Sunday preparing my card gallery website for new additions and moving the newly retired stamp sets to the retired gallery.

Thanks to all of my loyal Catalog Coupon Club who stopped by and picked up their catalogs last night. It was a fun night, and I truly appreciate your business!

First off, here is my coupon book this year - I think it is adorable!

I used Chocolate Chip and Baja Breeze colors. What a fantastic color combo! Hopefully, my customers will enjoy their own little sock monkey this year!

It was a whirlwind evening - with lots of food and a new drink! However, my customers were more concentrated on the new catalog than the food. It is a fabulous catalog - with lots of beautiful and fun stamp sets - the Under the Stars stamp set with Skeeter wheel was a big hit. Hmm, maybe that should be on my first order! I love the new punches - the wider oval and the new label punch will be favorites for me. Plus the new papers - WOW!!! I will be planning lots of stamp camps around these gorgeous designs!

I made a delicious Asti punch - it was taken from an online recipe - but I never make things EXACTLY like it says on recipe cards. Here is my punch recipe:

Jane's Asti Sangria

1 bottle Asti Spumante (does not have to be expensive!), chilled
3 c. Ginger Ale, chilled
2 c. Lemonade (not concentrate), chilled
1 c. Frozen Peaches
1 Lemon, sliced in wedges

Mix together in a glass pitcher - and serve cold and on ice. You can add strawberry slices or lime slices too!

It was delicious!

Another crowd pleaser was my Strawberry Lemon Trifle. I bought a trifle bowl at a Pampered Chef party this year - this is a great item! Well, it holds a lot too - so I am actually revising the recipe I had to make it fill up the bowl more completely. Here is my revised recipe:

Jane's Strawberry Lemon Trifle

INGREDIENTS
8 ounces fat-free cream cheese, softened
2 cups lemon yogurt (I used Yoplait Original)
4 cups skim milk
2 (3.4 ounce) packages instant lemon pudding mix
4 teaspoons grated lemon peel (optional)
4 cups sliced fresh strawberries, divided
2 (9 inch) prepared angel food cake

DIRECTIONS
In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese and yogurt. Add the milk, pudding mix and lemon peel; beat until smooth. Tear cake into 1-in. cubes; place a fourth in a Pampered Chef trifle bowl. Top with a fourth of the pudding mixture and a fourth of the remaining strawberries. Repeat twice. Top with remaining cake and pudding mixture and add whole or sliced strawberries on top. Cover with trifle bowl lid and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

You could certainly add or improvise with different fruits - a blueberry lemon trifle would be unbelievable!

Oh, I forgot to mention this - I had this party planned for about 2 months...and thankfully, my UPS man came about Noon on Thursday with my catalogs! I was panicking wondering what I would do if I had to tell my customers their catalogs were not in yet!!!!

Can't wait to spend time with my new stamps and play!

Christmas in July Stamp Camp

Last night I held my annual Christmas in July Stamp Camp which featured retiring stamp sets. My stamp campers made four cards. This one was my personal favorite.

I love the Peaceful Wishes stamp set; however, instead of using the berry stamp, I used the top of a pencil so I had more freedom of placement. I also liked how I used the Hodgepodge Hardware with the ribbon. The bottom phrase is embossed. I will miss the Purely Pomegranate color when it retires in August. This was a 5.25x5.25 card - it was the crowd favorite too!

To get my stampers in the mood, I played Christmas music and made Christmas cookies. My family's favorite cookie - peanut blossoms (peanut butter cookies with a Hershey's Kiss) was also a big hit. My husband thinks I make the best ones - they do always turn out perfect!

My Ponderings on the 2008 Stamp Set Retirement List

With each new catalog, there is some sadness in seeing previous favorite stamp sets hit the dust so to speak. This new retirement list is no different.

As a Stampin' Up! demonstrator, it is in my best interest to showcase stamp sets that are available to purchase. That is why I rarely keep retired stamp sets. I do hold on to a very few (I can count 8 stamp sets I have saved since 2000 - mainly religious and children/school related). I also have a customer garage sale that is always a huge hit. My customers get first dibs on my retired stamp sets. I then list the ones that didn't sell on my website garage sale (we are not allowed to sell the stamp sets until they are retired).

What will I miss from this year's retired list?

Happy Camper - this one was so fun to work with, but I had always hoped there would be a phrase accessory stamp set

Yappy Day - although I do not have a dog, I really enjoyed working with this set

Unfroggettable - Perfect set for those in-between kid cards

Peaceful Wishes - I thought this set was so elegant - it was one of the few non-snow holiday stamp sets I had!

Touch of Nature - I especially loved the Shakespeare phrase in this set

Although I will miss these stamp sets, I know Stampin' Up! has many new and exciting stamp sets that I will love with the new catalog!

Basement Flooding

It has been a while since I have been online due to the recent Midwest flooding. We were very lucky as we had just an inch or so of rainwater in our basement (thank goodness it wasn't sewage). I am praying for all those who have been affected by the flooding...we lost items (including computers and tax documents) and a few personal items like my childhood dollhouse, but really it was a blessing in disguise. We really cleaned out!

I haven't had much urge to stamp, but I did upload lots of cards to my card gallery before the flood.

Bleach Brushing Technique

I have been neglecting my blog while I have been feverishly updating my card gallery website. In the last few weeks, I have posted about 200-300 cards (including several new stamp set pages) as well as linking my technique classes with example pages. If you haven't checked out my card gallery, it is worth the trip!

On the index page, there is a card using the Winds of Grace stamp set.

The technique used for this card is called Bleach Brushing. So many variations happen to cardstock when bleach comes in contact with it. For this technique, all you need to do is use a bristle brush, sweep it in some bleach, brush it over the cardstock, and let it dry. In this card, however, the bleach pooled a bit on the bottom of the Not Quite Navy cardstock. I searched my stamp set inventory for just the right image. The Winds of Grace sailboat, which was embossed on top of the dryed bleach brushing technique, was perfect! In fact, the excess bleach pool left an image of rushing waves hitting the sailboat.

However, best results happen when you are lighter to the touch with the bleach and leave some unbleached areas on the cardstock. Be sure to thoroughly rinse out all materials used when bleaching. Bleach can wreck art supplies, clothing, furniture...you get the picture.

Hershey Bar Slider

I recently did a workshop and featured the Enjoy Every Moment from the April Free Wheelin' Special. For my hostess, I wanted to create items for her hostess bag in the same theme of the card. Every woman loves chocolate - so I knew I had to include at least one chocolate item in her bag. This candy bar slider was perfect!

I loved the color combination of Bashful Blue and Chocolate Chip. The three-flower punch was perfect for some punched embellishments. I do hope my hostess enjoys every moment of eating her chocolate!

Technique Tuesday Faux Denim Colored Ribbon Slide Card

This card was a big hit at my recent Technique Tuesday class. I showed my customers the faux denim technique (see the background strip). I also showed them how to color the new ribbon slides in the Spring Hodgepodge Hardware kit using Crystal Effects and ink refills.

Colored Embellishment - On a deli lid, pour a dime-sized amount of Crystal Effects. Add 1 drop of Brocade Blue ink refill. Mix with toothpick. Using the same toothpick as a paintbrush, paint the inner part of flower embellishment. Let dry before completing card.

Faux Denim - Swipe Brocade Blue inkpad over the Brocade Blue cardstock in long swipes lengthwise. Set aside to dry a bit. In the same direction, swipe the Night of Navy inkpad in long swipes. Again, set aside to dry a bit.

Lightly swipe the white craft ink over the blue ink in the same direction. Let this dry or use a heat gun to speed up drying process. Turn cardstock 90 degrees. Apply long stroke of the Night of Navy ink over the piece. Allow all inks to dry before finishing or matting faux denim pieces. Be aware, your Craft White pad will suffer a bit from this technique in appearance - but the effect is so worth it!

Stamp main flower in Stazon. Color with WCCrayons/Aquapainter. Sponge edges. Stamp small flower/phrase and punch out. Punch out label. Attach pieces.

Where is Spring?

If you live in the Midwest, you may be asking the same question. We've certainly had a quota for snow and winter weather this year. Well, if Spring needs a little nudge, I've got the perfect little card for it.

This card uses two very simple techniques - the spotlighting technique and one of my favorite background techniques - smooshing (yes, that is a technical term). For spotlighting, stamp the image twice and leave one of them uncolored. Then punch out the spotlighting section on the other image and color in and mount to another but slightly larger punched out piece. Attach on top of the uncolored image. For "smooshing", use your inkpad to make marks on the cardstock. I prefer to use the same color ink on cardstock, but coordinating colors look good on most cardstock as well.

Maybe this little birdie will chase the winter blues away!

On this gloomy and rainy and soon to be snowy Sunday, I was very productive! I have been wanting to upload my stamping garage sale items for a long time! Right now, I have most of the items up on the website.

Technique Tuesday Shaker Card

This Tuesday was my scheduled Technique Tuesday stamp class. One of the techniques I was planning on showing was the shaker card technique. I created my class sample with the adorable stamp set Happy Heart Day. I knew my customers were going to love this card!

Sadly, the Wisconsin winter weather forced a cancellation - the 50 mph winds and -35 degree windchills were not conducive to stampers driving to my home.

February's Technique Tuesday's group will be making a different shaker card as it will be held towards the end of the month.

Here are some quick instructions - Stamp mouse image in StazOn on Real Red cardstock. Attach brads. I then used a non-SU circle punch for the window - you could also use a Coluzzle. I then layered and attached some acetate over it. Stamp butterfly image on a separate piece of Whisper White (make piece larger than punched circle), color in, and play with placement of image inside shaker.

After this is done, you need to put some double-stick foam tape or excess rubber from your cut-out stamp sets in a square design to buffer/block the shaker insides from scooting all over. Do not tear off protective strips on the outside yet.

Now carefully put in your shaker items - don't use too much or too little for the best effect. I used some heart confetti and Stampin' Up!'s micro beads.

Tear the protective strips off the double-stick foam tape. Place your focal image on top. I then put double-stick foam tape on the underside edges of my layer - it just helps with propping it up correctly.

I then colored in the flower with a white gel pen and made a tag and popped it up with Stampin' Dimensionals and added the jeweled brad! Mount on Basic Gray and Basic Black cardstock and attach to a Whisper White card.
